SIU Baseball returned to Itchy Jones Stadium for a one-game midweek matchup. Before heading back on the road, the Dawgs hosted the Arkansas State University Red Wolves on April 14. The clash between the Missouri Valley Conference and the Sun Belt Conference resulted in an 11-5 loss for the Dawgs.
Alec Ammerman got the start for the Salukis and got through the first inning unscathed. The pitcher wasn’t so fortunate in the second, giving up six early runs on a three-run homer and a three-run double.

The Red Wolves tacked on two more runs in the top of the fourth inning, upping their lead to 8-0.
Catcher Mason Schwalbach stepped up with a runner on base and hit an opposite-field home run to get the Dawgs on the board in the fifth inning. After a triple by right fielder Kye Watson, centerfielder Henry Kufa gave the Salukis their third run on a sacrifice fly.
The Red Wolves’ high-powered offense didn’t subside, adding a combined three runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
