Isom named MVFC Newcomer of the Week

Freshman running back Daquan Isom was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer of the Week this week for his first game back from an indefinite suspension.

Isom collected 275 all-purpose yards in SIU’s season-ending 49-28 loss to Northern Iowa on Saturday. He had 145 rushing yards and one touchdown combined with 68 receiving yards and a touchdown. The freshman also had 62 yards on three kickoff returns. 

Isom had back-to-back touchdowns on two rushes. The first was 61 yards and the second was 72 yards.

Isom finishes his true-freshman season with 548 rushing and 408 receiving yards, both second on the team, in nine games played. Including kickoff returns, Isom finished the season with 1,424 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns. 

The freshman finished first in the MVFC with an average of 23.4 kick return yards, second with 158.2 all purpose yards, sixth with four receptions, eighth with 5.3 points and ninth with 60.9 rushing yards per game. 

He won the same award after the Sept. 26 34-13 win against then-No. 10 Liberty. Isom had 123 rushing yards and one touchdown. He also had 29 receiving yards.
