Owner of Sam’s Cafe, Yaser Ibrahim, welcomes customers to his restaurant Thursday, September 17, 2020 in Carbondale, Illinois. Ibrahim has been in business for 29 years. “It’s just not the same anymore ... Carbondale, you know. I used to get airline tickets. My friends would say, ‘Where are you going.’ I’d say, ‘Carbondale,’ and they would say ‘Oh, O.K.’ Now I say ‘Carbondale and they say ‘where,” Ibrahim said.

Located at 606 South Illinois Avenue, Slabz is a brand-new skate shop in Carbondale and is the newest edition the strip has to offer. They offer a variety of services and products related to the skating hobby, big smiles, and friendly advice. Owner of Slabz, Austin Sears (pictured) is an avid skating enthusiast experienced with skateboard repairs and modifications. Slabz offers their services Monday-Friday from 10am-6pm, and on Saturdays from 10am-2pm.

A line of American flags line the street of Walnut in Murphysboro, IL on Labor Day weekend. Most workplaces and schools are closed to observe Labor Day, the day where American laborers  celebrate their economic and social accomplishments. Labor Day is held on the first Monday in September and  was first celebrated in 1882 in the state of New York. Many other states followed in following years. It wasn't until in 1894, when President Grover Cleveland made the day into a national holiday. This photo was taken on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2020.
