SIU women’s golf places 9th in Pinetree Country Club Collegiate

Russell, who was named MVC golfer of the week recipient in late September, after hitting three rounds of 74, 73, and 74 for a total score of 221 (+5) to tie for eight place overall.

The Saluki women’s golf team took part in the Pinetree Women’s Collegiate in Kennesaw, Georgia, beginning on Monday and wrapping up the next day. As a team, they finished ninth in an 11-team field.

Ella Overstreet led the Salukis with a score of +18, good for a tie for 39th out of 66 individuals. Kylee Vaughan followed closely behind at +20, and Janie Samattiyadeekul rounded out the top three Salukis at +22.

Each of the top three improved their scores in each round, with Overstreet having the best round three shooting a 74. The other two Salukis – Secilia Ho at +30 and Morgan Gindler at +34 – saw their scores worsen by one stroke between the first two rounds, but shot their best rounds on the final day.

The women’s team will have one more tournament in Georgia next week, competing in the Brickyard Collegiate hosted by Mercer, before returning to southern Illinois for the MVC Championships in Waterloo starting on April 16.
