Women’s Golf finishes out 2023 Season in 10th place at MVC Championship

Tuesday afternoon, the Saluki Women’s Golf team finished a three day stint in Waterloo, Illinois for their final meet of the season, and the Missouri Valley Conference Championship.

The Salukis finished with a score of 979, placing higher than UIC (982) and Valparaiso (1008). The Missouri State Bears took the championship with a 943 final score after all three rounds. It was tight in places 2-6, with only eight points separating Evansville (952), Belmont (952), Murray State (953), Illinois State (956), and Drake (960).

Junior Janie Samattiyadeekul led the way for the dawgs this tournament, with a ninth place finish that was catapulted by strong first and third rounds. Samattiyadeekul finished with a 236 overall score. Senior Cecilia Ho wasn’t far off from her, tying for a 14th place finish and rounding out with a 238 overall score

Senior Ayanna Habeel came next for the dawgs with a 254 final score, which was good enough for a tie in 46th place. Two points behind her was sophomore Kylee Vaughn with a tie for 50th place and a 256 overall score.

Rounding out the Dawgs was freshman Ella Overstreet, with a 258 final score that was catapulted by a majorly improved third round. She turned scores of 91 and 87 in rounds one and two, into a score of 80 in round three. She finished in 55th place overall.

The Dawgs will now prepare for the offseason, with over five months to prepare until the beginning of next season.
