Former SIU athlete finishes 16th in long jump at Rio Olympics
A former SIU track and field athlete finished in the top-20 in the world in the women’s long jump Tuesday evening during the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Representing the Bahamas, Bianca Stuart, a 2009 SIU graduate, placed 16th in the women’s long jump preliminaries with a jump of 6.45 meters. The jump failed to advance her to the finals.
Stuart, born in Nassau, Bahamas, was a two-time All-American at SIU and placed 18th in the 2012 London Olympics.
Ivana Spanovic of Serbia finished first in preliminary jumps with her 6.87 meter jump to pace the field for Wednesday’s final.
