Less than 10 minutes after receiving a report of an attempted sexual assault with multiple victims this morning, the Department of Public Safety made an arrest in connection to the incident. 

SIU police received the report at 9:33 a.m. and the department arrested a suspect, who is not affiliated with the university, at 9:41 a.m.

“Further investigation revealed evidence of clothed lewd contact between the suspect and three victims,” according to the university’s department.

The suspect, who was not named on SIU police’s website, was transported to the Jackson County Jail.

In its news release, SIU police said the incident occurred on campus but did not specify where. It did not say if the victims were students, either.

The incident remains under investigation.
