5-year-old girl shot in Carbondale

Carbondale police officers responded to a shooting on the 400 block of E. Chestnut Street around 11:26 a.m. Monday. The gunshot victim is a five-year-old girl.  

She was treated at the scene by the Jackson County Ambulance Service and was later taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale where doctors stabilized her. 

The victim is currently in a hospital in St. Louis for further medical treatment and care. Officers and detectives have arrested three juvenile suspects in the area.

No further information about the suspects has been released at this time. This is an ongoing investigation, and the story will be updated as more developments occur.
