Gallery: Prom Boutique gives away dresses, looks to make event ‘unforgettable’

By Isabel Miller, Photography and Video Editor

The Prom Boutique gave away dresses to girls from southern Illinois in attempts to “ensure any girl in the southern Illinois area who wants to attend her prom has a magical experience,” according to event organizers.

Noeshia Washington, Chicago native and SIU Alumni, organized “Southern Illinois Project Prom” with the intent of providing local girls with free prom dresses.

Noeshia graduated in May and passed her passion project to Jessica Edmond, with the hope that it would continue and evolve.

The event’s name may have changed, but its mission remains the same – working with community organizations, businesses and are residents to ensure that any girl in the Southern Illinois area who wants to attend her prom “has a magical experience.”
