City Hall to host photoshoot for SIU 150, Day of Giving

The City of Carbondale and the SIU Foundation are giving local residents and students the opportunity to show their Saluki Pride and pose with Salukis.

The event is leading up to the university’s 150th anniversary in early March and the SIU Day of Giving on March 6, said Amy Fox, spokeswoman for the City of Carbondale.

“Last year, city employees who are SIU graduates participated in the Day of Giving campaign by having their pictures taken,” Fox said. “This year, we are encouraging businesses and community members to participate as well.”

Fox said that the city began hosting the event as a way to promote community connections to the university.

“SIU has always had a strong connection with the city of Carbondale and this event will connect alumni as well as community members,” said Rebecca Renshaw, SIU Associate Director for Community Development. “The photos will be used to create a mural and will be on the website.”

Those attending the event are encouraged to wear maroon and university-related apparel to show school pride, Fox said.

The photo shoot will take place tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at City Hall in downtown Carbondale. For more information on donating to this event visit www.siuday.siu.edu.
