One man dead, one person seriously injured after Carbondale shooting

Brandon Brooks, 35, of Carbondale, was killed and another individual was injured after a shooting in Carbondale Thursday night, police said.

Police responded to gunshot calls around 11:30 p.m. Thursday in the 400 block of East Mill Street. The incident appeared to be a dispute between acquaintances, police said.

The injured victim was also involved in a traffic accident at the intersection of West Main Street and North Illinois Avenue while headed to the hospital to treat the gunshot wounds. The individual was eventually taken to a St. Louis hospital with life-threatening wounds, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and no suspect information has been released.
