Police investigate Sunday morning stabbing in Carbondale

Carbondale police are investigating after a person was stabbed early Sunday morning about two miles from campus.

The person was stabbed during an argument in the 400 block of East Sycamore Street, according to a news release sent by the department.

Officers responded to the area at 4:22 a.m. and found the victim with multiple serious stab wounds. The victim was taken to the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for treatment.

The victim, who was not identified in the release, is a possible acquaintance of the suspect, who is still at large. 

Police described the suspect as a Caucasian male of thin build. He is 5-foot-8 or 5-foot-9 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white tank top, dark-colored pants and a ball cap.

The investigation is ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the police department at 618-457-3200 or Crime Stoppers at 618-549-COPS.
