With one hand raised high in the air and the other gripped tightly around a rope, cowboys prepare for the rush that is the rodeo.

“After the first few bucks, when the horse levels out; it’s just the best feeling in the world,” said rodeo competitor Logan Murray, of Clay City.

Participants rode in competitions ranging from bull riding to barrel racing as part of the event sponsored by Whippoorwill Rodeo on Saturday and Sunday at the Du Quoin State Fair.
