Firefighters are investigating what caused an abandoned trailer to catch fire Sunday afternoon at a mobile home park near the southern edge of Carbondale.

About 3 p.m., firefighters responded to reports of a structure fire in the Malibu Village Mobile Home Park at 2441 S. Illinois Ave. When crews arrived, the trailer was fully engulfed and flames were seen coming from the windows and doors, said Assistant Fire Chief Mike Hertz.

No one was found inside the trailer and no injuries were reported, Hertz said.

Hertz estimated the value of the home between $2,000 and $3,000. He said said there was no immediate indication of foul play, but the cause remains under investigation.

The fire was under control after abut 20 minutes and crews left the scene about 5:30 p.m., Hertz said.
