The Southern Illinois baseball team lost for the third time in four games Friday night, dropping a 5-2 decision at Dallas Baptist.

Junior left-hander Colin Poche (5-0, 1.45 ERA) earned the win for the Patriots (22-10, 3-0 Missouri Valley Conference). Poche threw six innings and allowed two unearned runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.

Junior first baseman Darick Hall’s two-run home run in the fifth inning was the final blow to Saluki junior lefty Joey Marciano (2-4, 4.53 ERA). Marciano gave up five runs, four earned, on seven hits in 4 and 1/3 innings with two walks and no strikeouts.

SIU (20-14-1, 1-3 MVC) stranded runners in scoring position in the first and third innings before pushing across its only two runs in the fifth.

Junior right-hander Austin McPheron provided 3.2 innings of no-hit relief of Marciano with two walks and two strikeouts.

Hall, who collected a game-high three hits and two RBIs, will take the mound for DBU at 2 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday. He will face SIU junior righty Chad Whitmer.

Saluki sophomore righty Michael Baird will toe the rubber for the second game against freshman lefty Jordan Martinson at 5 p.m.
