Revvin’ up that old ‘Chevy’

By Gus Bode

Remember Chevy Chase? The man perfected physical comedy in the ’70s and ’80s as Clark Griswold in the ‘Vacation’ films and as an original cast member of ‘Saturday Night Live’.

Well, Chase has either fallen on some hard times over the last decade or has the worst casting agent in Hollywood. His work over the past decade probably peaked with a role on ‘Law & Order’ or in the piece of cinematic gold, ‘Zoom: Academy for Superheroes’.

The intense slump Chase’s career has been in is a disheartening one, since he was one of the funniest men on the planet during his prime.

So it comes as good news when Chase has recorded a television pilot with Joel McHale, host of E!’s ‘The Soup’.

The show is tentatively titled ‘Community’. McHale plays an attorney who learns his college degree is not legitimate, so he heads back to community college like any self-respecting lawyer to fulfill the requirements. At community college he meets up with Chases’ character that is also an older student, with dreams of striking it rich.

With McHale’s snark and Chase’s dry humor this show could have some legs. Hopefully the two funny men can make it work and get it on to our televisions.

It sure would be nice to see Chase again, or at least funny again. Until then ‘Caddyshack’ and ‘Fletch’ re-watching will have to do.
