Women’s Golf Places 6th at Texas State Invitational

The SIU Women’s Golf team traveled to Plum Creek Golf Club in Kyle, Texas, over February 6-7 to compete in the Texas State Invitational.  The Salukis finished in sixth place, with a score of +61 over par.  

The Dawgs’ total score was 913, placing them one stroke behind Lamar and ahead of both Texas A&M-Commerce  and IUPUI.

Texas State, the host of the tournament, led shooting an 859 to put them at +7 over par.

Southern’s leading golfer was freshman Ella Overstreet, who shot a 224 and tied for 13th overall.  Janie Samattiyadeekul and Secilia Ho were golfers two and three for SIU, shooting a 225 and a 226 respectively.  Samattiyadeekul finished tied for 16, and Ho finished 18 overall.  

Kylee Vaughan shot a 241 and Ayanna Habeel a 245 to round out the rest of the team.   Adriana Vinterova and Morgan Gindler competed as individuals, with Vinterova shooting a 242 and Gindler a 246.

The Salukis will return to Texas on February 20-21 to play in The Islander Classic, hosted by Texas A&M Corpus-Christi.
