SIU closes campus due to freezing rain

Due to the incoming winter storm Southern Illinois University (SIU) will be canceling in-person classes at and after 4 p.m. today.

According to the recent weather report, freezing rain will occur at 4 p.m. and continue until 8 p.m. 

An emailed statement made by SIU administration said any classes that occur after 4 p.m. will be canceled, but online classes will still occur.

“SIU Carbondale on-campus, in-person classes beginning at 4pm or later today, Wednesday February 23, are canceled due to anticipated weather conditions. If the course is online, it will continue as planned.  Morris Library, the Student Center and the Student Recreation Center will remain open. Tonight’s game will be held as scheduled. Visit siusalukis.com for options to watch or listen to the game.  Employees should report to work as scheduled or contact their supervisors.”

SIU plans to open back up the school tomorrow at 8 a.m. and will let students know if classes will also be canceled tomorrow before 7 a.m.
