Redbirds sweep Saluki Volleyball

Illinois State traveled to Davies Gym on Friday, Oct. 29 to play Southern Illinois a Missouri Valley Conference matchup. ISU would go on to sweep the Salukis, winning in three sets. 

The first set was dominated by the Redbirds, as they jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Illinois State wins it, 25-12. 

ISU continued their great play as they jumped on Southern Illinois in the second set. Although SIU kept the final score more competitive, the Redbirds ended up on top, 25-18.

It was now the Salukis turn to jump to an early lead. SIU went up 10-6 on the Redbirds hoping to start a comeback. 

However, the Salukis weren’t able to maintain the momentum and lost the set 25-17. 

ISU’s sophomore hitter Nicole Lund let the game in total kills with 13, and total blocks with eight. Redbirds’ junior libero Kaity Weimerskirch also led the game with 12 digs.

Southern Illinois’ freshman setter led the game with 21 assists and added eight digs to her total as well. Sophomore hitter Tatum Tornatta led the Salukis in kills with ten.

SIU will play Bradley in Davies Gym for their next game on Saturday, Oct. 30.
