SIU Swim and Dive Men’s and Women’s team drop home meet against Mizzou

Both of SIU’s Swim and Dive teams lost their home meet Saturday afternoon against the Tigers. The Men’s team lost by a score of 148-92, while the Women’s team fell by a score of 145-95.

Headlining the Salukis Women’s team was freshman Celia Pulido who broke a new school record in the 200-backstroke and was first leg in the 400-medley relay that also broke a new school record. Pulido’s 200-backstroke put up a time of 1:56.70 and the 400-medley put up a time of 3:35.38. Pulido was helped by sophomore Mima Zaborska, freshman Jasmine Rau, and fifth-year student Sierra Forbord.

Also winning events of their own were Zaborska in the 200-yard breaststroke and senior Laura Mircea who won the three-meter diving event. Zaborska put up a time of 2:13.60 and Mircea put up a score of 246.6.

As for the Men’s team, they won a total of three out of thirteen events for the afternoon. Sophomore Gustav Persson won the 200-yard breaststroke by putting up a time of 2:04.19. Junior Adam Cernek won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:45.36. Senior Zheng Yang Yeap won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1.40.40. 

The Salukis will return to action relatively soon. The women will now prepare to host the University of Illinois and Illinois State University on Friday, October 29 at 5 p.m. The men will get ready for the A3 Performance Invitational in Carbondale. That meet will last from Thursday, November 11 through Saturday, November 13.
