Mary Miller, Republican congresswoman from Illinois District 15, was criticized by Gov. JB Pritzker following remarks she made at a rally in Washington DC on Tuesday. 

Miller was elected to congress in November to replace Republican representative John  Shimkus, and sworn into office on Jan. 3, 2021. 

“Hitler was right about one thing. Whoever has the youth has the future,” Miller said at a Save the Republic Rally hosted by Moms for America.

Pritzker addressed Miller’s remarks at the beginning of a press conference on Wednesday. 

“This reprehensible rhetoric has no place in our politics,” Pritzker said. “Illinois republicans cannot allow this to stand, and must condemn this vile, evil streak in their party.”

Miller spoke at a rally opposing the election of Joe Biden as the country’s 46th president.

Organizers encouraged people “rising up to save the Republic for our families,” according to the event description on the Moms for America Facebook page.

Moms for America is an Ohio based 501(c)(3) founded in 2004, and is led by conservative writer Kimberly Fletcher.

The rally took place on the northeast corner of the Capitol Hill lawn across the street from the Russell Senate Office Building a day before the riots in which Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building.

Miller credited Bill Montgomery, a co-founder of the conservative action group Turning Point USA, for recruiting her to run for office. 

Miller’s office did not respond for comment at the time of publication.
