Halftime Report: SEMO takes 7-3 lead over SIU

In the first matchup of the season for both No. 24 Southern Illinois and No. 25 Southeast Missouri State, the Redhawks lead the Salukis 7-3 at the half. 

The Salukis and the Redhawks met at Saluki Stadium on Oct. 30 for the annual War of the Wheel game, which SEMO won last year 44-26 on their home field in Cape Girardeau, Mo. 

The Redhawks were the first on the scoreboard, with sophomore running back Geno Hess rushing a total of 75 yards for the touchdown completion.

Southern’s next drive consisted of 16 plays with a total of 68 yards, and the Salukis scored with a field goal make from the 23 yard line by senior kicker Nico Gualdoni.

In the first quarter the Redhawks rushed a total of 94 yards and passed for a total of five yards; the Salukis rushed 32 yards and passed for 38 yards total. 

The second quarter saw the Redhawks rush a total of 90 yards and pass for 19, while Southern rushed 49 yards and passed for 38.
