Easter Smith, 39, gets ready for her day, Oct. 16, 2020, in Murphysboro, Ill. Smith is originally from Phoenix, Arizona and decided to move to southern Illinois to raised her 6 children in a different environment. Smith first moved to Murphysboro then Anna in 2016 as she heard rumors that the high school in Anna was closing down due to budgeting and strikes. Although family and friends asked Easter not to move to Anna due to its racist history, she said she wanted to try it and if it was like they said it was then she would move back. After moving and staying in Anna for four years until moving back to Murphysboro, Smith says that she would live in Anna again. “They were very welcoming. I think that for the most part they are wanting change,” Smith said. Smith said that it was not only different for those in Anna but also for some of her kids. “Some of my children, it was a culture shock for them as well. Being that they went to school in Arizona and Murphy which a lot more diverse, going to where they were the only kids there, it was hard for a few of my kids so they had to work at it too.”

Easter Smith, holds a sign made for Arieh Hart for winning first place in the 2018 Wrestling State Championship. The sign was displayed in Anna back in 2018 as Hart was the first in the town’s history to win first place in a state championship in wrestling. Smith, a mother of six and three being wrestlers, said she likes wrestling as it is a one on one sports so it teaches her children that even if you lose, you are still okay; as in wrestling there are matches one after the other and there is no time to process a loss. “It taught them a lot of discipline, a lot of self-control, a lot humbling, [you] look yourself in the mirror and realize that you can’t blame anyone else,” Easter said. That is what made her fall in love with wrestling.

Jared Davey, 40, from Carbondale, IL, is in charge of painting all of the logos of the businesses which occupy the building. Davey worked on the Cristaudos logo on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020, in Carbondale, ILL. “It is my interpretation of the logo,” Davey said when talking about the Cristaudo’s logo which was originally created by Bob Hunter. Davey became a full-time artist in 2013, originally doing screen printing and sign painting for a few years. Flamm Orchards is a family owned business that has been around for 127 years. Leonhard and Theresa Flamm first purchased 117 acres of land in 1888, today, the farm has increased in size to about 2,000 acres. At the orchards inside of the Country Market, where they sell their produce, is the wholesale packing house operation.
