Marion police department discover dead body

The Marion police department and the Illinois State Police are investigating a dead body that was found on Nov. 4, according to a release by the Marion police. 

During the early morning hours, the Marion police department responded to a disturbance call at a local hotel, the name of which has not been released at this time. 

Amid the investigation, two “persons of interest” fled the scene in a vehicle, which Marion police units attempted to catch up to.

Before the Marion police could attempt to stop the vehicle, the vehicle lost control and crashed on Longstreet Road, east of IL. Rt. 37. The occupants fled on foot into a wooded area. 

The Marion and Herrin police departments, using a K-9, began to track through the woods. The K-9 led officers to a deceased white male lying in the wooded area. 

The investigation into death is being handled by the Illinois State Police. Name(s) are being withheld, pending family notification.

This investigation is ongoing.
