Every year for Saluki Startup, the SIU Welcome Fest and a Scavenger Hunt are hosted for the incoming freshmen.

The Welcome Fest will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug 23. and will be held at the SIU Student Recreation Center.

There will be an array of different businesses that will promote their brand by handing out free items as well as welcoming students.

The Downtown Carbondale Scavenger Hunt is planned to start at 5 p.m. and run till 7 p.m. It will also be meeting at the SIU Student Recreation Center.

It is a way for new students who are not familiar with Carbondale to explore the town and become more familiar with it.

Students who do plan to attend the scavenger hunt will be able to catch a shuttle back to the residence halls between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.
