Driver rescued from floodwaters by good samaritans

Two men rescued an unresponsive driver from floodwaters Monday morning, according to a press release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

The two men, referred to as good samaritans in the release, carried the driver to safety and kept him warm until emergency services arrived.

According to the release, the accident occurred on Monday morning just after 11 a.m. on Illinois 13, just east of Airport Road. The vehicle, a 2012 Hyundai, went off the right side of the roadway and down an embankment into a body of floodwater.

Jackson County Ambulance Service transported the victim to a local hospital.

The crash is still under investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
