Women’s golf places third at Bama Beach Bash

The SIU women’s golf team climbed one spot in the standings on Sunday to claim a third-place finish at the Bama Beach Bash in Mobile, Alabama.

After they finished the first day in fifth, the Salukis advanced one spot in the standings in each of the next two rounds.

For the three rounds combined, Southern shot a 51-over-par 915. Second-place Georgia State and first-place South Alabama finished ahead of SIU with scores of 27-over-par 891 and 8-under-par 856, respectively.

Three Salukis finished in the top 20, led by senior Hanna Netisingha’s 1oth-place finish. She posted a three-day score of 224, just eight strokes over par.

Freshman Moyea Russell tied for 15th with a 13-over-par 229. Close behind was sophomore Erica Kerr in a tie for 18th. She posted a 16-over-par 232.

Freshman Emilyee McGiles and sophomore Lili Klekner-Alt rounded out Southern’s scorecard with scores of 239 and 246, respectively. McGiles tied for 31st while Klekner-Alt tied for tie 39th.

Two more Salukis, senior Alice Ho and junior Sun Jung, competed as individuals in the tournament. Ho finished in 34th with her score of 240. Jung’s 248 placed her in 41st.

The Salukis will return home to prepare for the Saluki Invitational at Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale. The SIU-hosted tournament is scheduled for March 25-26.
