Daily Egyptian wins national recognition

The Daily Egyptian won an Associated Collegiate Press Online Pacemaker award on Saturday in Dallas.

According to the ACP’s website, there were 105 entries, 25 of which were selected as finalists.

The award recognizes the “best of the best” of college newspapers, according to the ACP’s website, and the Pacemaker is often referred to as the Pulitzer Prize of collegiate journalism.

Past and current members of the Daily Egyptian staff were also given awards.

Abby Wilhelm, a member of the advertisement production staff, received an honorable mention for an advertising campaign.

Brian Munoz, the photography and multimedia editor, received an honorable mention for a spot news photograph in SIUE’s student newspaper, the Alestle.

Ryan Michalesko, a previous staff photographer, received an honorable mention for spot news photograph and won third place for an environmental portrait.

Jacob Wiegand, a previous managing editor and photography and multimedia editor, received an honorable mention in the sports photograph category.
