31st annual women’s conference to feature international fitness expert

The southern Illinois based organization Women for Health in Wellness will host their 31st annual Women’s Health Conference tomorrow at John A. Logan College.

For attendees, the conference will start at 7.a.m. with health screenings, blood screenings and a continental breakfast and end at 2 p.m. with raffle drawings, according to the conference website.

Neisha Bhattacharya, co-chair of Women for Health in Wellness said the purpose of the organization and conference is to educate the women of southern Illinois.

“Before the conference had started there wasn’t really anything out there for the general public to come view for different health concerns,” Bhattacharya said.

The day long conference will also feature a keynote from Marzia Prince, an international fitness expert.

“Her main message is it’s never too late. You can make that change, and that’s really the message we want to send out,” Bhattacharya said. “We want to uplift each other to do better in life.”

Prince said she will mention things such as heart disease being the number one killer, her personal health and fitness background and proven methods she uses on her clients to change their lives.

“I hope anyone that comes to the conference doesn’t let it [what they learn] go in one ear and out the other,” Prince said. “I really hope they implement it, use it and change their life because it could save their life.”

Bhattacharya said they chose Prince to speak at this event because her message matches the theme of the conference: women helping women.

Some of the other sessions the conference include the subjects of musculoskeletal anatomy, knowing the 10 signs of Alzheimer’s and women’s mental health.

She said these conferences are not just meant to benefit the women that attend.

“If we are educating the women, we’re educating their families,” Bhattacharya said. “Really if you get in with the women they’re educating their entire family and helping them succeed in life.”

She said next March they will combine their women’s, teen and men’s conference together and have a family expo.

“That way the whole family can attend something together versus the separate things,” Bhattacharya said.

For anyone who would like to attend this year’s conference, there will be limited registration at the door, Bhattacharya said. You can also call 618.985.2828 ext. 8469 or 8604 for information on late registration, according to the conference website.
