SIU basketball will have a player missing time with injury before playing a single second in a Saluki uniform.

Incoming freshman guard Aaron Cook could be on the shelf half a year with a torn labrum.

“Aaron Cook has a torn labrum and will have surgery,” coach Barry Hinson said. “Torn labrums usually take up to six months to heal.”

The 6-foot-1170-pound point guard led Westminster Christian High School, near St. Louis, to a 24-6 record in his senior season while averaging 22.1 points per game.

Cook’s scoring was sixth best in St. Louis and he was named a first-team all-metro selection by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
