SIU men’s basketball center Bola Olaniyan has been released from his scholarship, coach Barry Hinson announced today.

The fifth-year senior from Lagos, Nigeria played in 90 games with the Salukis and started in 50. He redshirted during the 2012-13 season.

Associate Athletic Director Tom Weber said Olaniyan requested the release.

During his first full year as a starter last season he averaged 7.8 points. He was suspended indefinitely and missed three games last November for a violation of team rules, according to Hinson at the time.

He led the team with a .566 field goal percentage and ranked second the the Missouri Valley Conference with 8.8 rebounds.
