The reigning Missouri Valley Conference golf champions continued where they left off to open the 2016-17 season.

Saluki men’s golf erased a two-stroke deficit Tuesday in the final round to win the Murray State Invitational at Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Ky., with a team score of 12-under-par 840.

Two Salukis, seniors Brandon Carlson and Matt Greenfield, finished tied for third-lowest scores in the tournament with 209 strokes in the three-round invitational.

Freshman Frank Thomas competed individually and finished tied for sixth with a score of 3-under-par 210.

No SIU competitors finished lower than 42nd in the 63-man field.

After not having a team victory since early 2013, the Dawgs have now won two of their last three tournaments, including the MVC Championships in April.

SIU will look to keep its winning ways afloat Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Burlington, Iowa.
