One of Saluki men’s basketball’s premier recruits is one step closer to beginning his career.
Freshman point guard Aaron Cook was cleared for full contact practice Friday, coach Barry Hinson said.
Cook, a 6-foot-1 product of Westminster Christian Academy in Missouri, is recovering from a May surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shooting shoulder. He appears to be ahead of Hinson’s six-month recovery timetable he originally gave after the surgery.

The freshman was named Conference Player of the Year, Class IV First Team All-State by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association and was placed on St. Louis NBC affiliate KSDK’s All-Metro team last year.

While at Westminster last year, Cook averaged 22.1 points per game, including one game in which his 41 points outscored the entire opposing team.
SIU begins its season Nov. 3 with an exhibition game against Missouri – St. Louis at SIU Arena.
