A young entrepreneur, Yolanda Ables has become a household, dorm room and office name around Carbondale as one of the best manicurists in town.

Since January, Yolanda and co-owner Lisa Norman have run the new booming business, Simply Nailz, at 300 E. Main St.

Yolanda has built a strong, thriving business through her client’s word of mouth.

I did an ad in the D.E. and the S.I. and didn’t get any business, she said. I’ve been lucky, all my advertising has been by word-of-mouth.

April Shaver, a junior in hotel restaurant management from Centralia, said she visits the local entrepreneur because of all the good things she heard about Yolanda.

Shaver said she noticed the one name that continually floats through the air and eventually enters conversations is Yolanda.

Everyone around campus was saying, Yolanda, Yolanda, Yolanda’ because she was really good, Shaver said. So I went.

Yolanda started a career in cosmetology but liked doing nails better. After coming to Carbondale to visit family and take a break from college, Yolanda began doing nails for Phase 1 Hair.
