Salukis hoping to contain Eaglettes
December 1, 1995
Saluki women’s basketball head coach Cindy Scott said her team needs a balanced offensive attack and wants her squad to stop Terrance Oglesby, Tennessee Tech’s six-foot senior and pre-season All-Ohio Valley Conference selection, when SIUC takes on the Golden Eaglettes at Eblen Center Monday night.
Oglesby has led Tennessee Tech in scoring the past two seasons and averaged 14 points and seven rebounds in her first two games this season.
I’m looking for Christel Jefferson to contain her, and if she can keep her under control we, can win the game, Scott said.

Jefferson is averaging 12.5 points and 7 rebounds per game this season and leads the team in rebounds along with LaQuanda Chavours.
SIUC’s 51-48 overtime victory at Murray State Tuesday night should be a confidence builder for the squad going into the game, Scott said.
The win came despite the absence of starting guard Nikki Gilmore, who is out of action due to an injury suffered in a shooting Monday night in St. Louis. Several SIUC players contributed in the contest, with seniors Kasia McClendon and LaQuanda Chavours combining for 26 points and 13 rebounds.
Gilmore will be out of SIUC’s lineup for the second straight game, but Scott said she is looking for the same effort from her players against the Golden Eaglettes that they showed at MSU.
We’re down to 10 players and eight of those have not experienced any significant playing time, she said. We had two seniors step up to get the job done at Murray and we’re going to need more of that.
Scott said improvements in defense and rebounding are essential if the Salukis are to improve their record to 2-1. The squad has not out-rebounded an opponent so far this season and is allowing 40.5 rebounds per contest.
The key factor for us is our defense, she said. We need to play tough defensively and rebound.
