Legislators, others to discuss higher education
December 5, 1995
The SIU Chancellor is to give something similar to a state of the university address today at the law school discussing current and future goals and policies of the institution before an Illinois House committee, university officials say.
The Joint Illinois House Appropriations-Education and Higher Education Committees will hold a public hearing at 1 p.m. today in the Hiram H. Lesar Law Building Auditorium.
Jack R. Dyer, executive director of University Relations, said the hearing at SIUC is the last of a series of hearings conducted at state colleges and universities across Illinois. He said it is not unusual for the education committees to conduct such hearings.

SIU Chancellor Ted Sanders will open the session with an overview of the University and what it has accomplished.
Dyer said the Chancellor will speak about where SIU is right now, where it has been and where it plans to go.
After Sanders speaks the floor will be open for discussion.
University News service reported that legislators intend to address the topics of how universities secure funding, funding options that may be available, how universities spend current appropriations and what changes may be needed.
Legislators and SIU affiliates are to analyze the financing of higher education and gather local input on various issues today at the law school.
The hearing is open to the public and organizers expect it to end around 3 p.m.
