Captain Condom will educate SIUC students about sex-related issues when he passes out 2,000 free condoms as part of a Residence Hall Association program, RHA members say.
RHA presented the final plans for Sex Week at its Tuesday meeting. The plans include prophylactic distribution by a man dressed as a condom and other sex-related presentations.

Ray Owczarzak, president of RHA, said the group wanted to inform students about sex. He said they decided on Sex Week to accomplish that.
The main reason for Sex Week is to give students something to do that is not only fun but educational, Owczarzak said. There’s no doubt there’s a lot of people on campus who are sexually active people that need to be informed.
Jason Gorman, an RHA member, said Captain Condom will give out 2,000 free condoms at 6 p.m. Feb. 22 in the Student Center’s Big Muddy Room.
Aside from Captain Condom, RHA also will have other sex education related activities during the week, Gorman said.
At 7 p.m. Sunday, Grinnell Hall will present Sex Fest, an opportunity for men and women to ask sex-related questions in a group setting. At Lentz Hall, a program about a student who got pregnant and decided to have the baby and stay in school will be presented at 7 p.m., Gorman said.
On Monday, the programs will be switched and held at the opposite location at the same times.
Gorman said Grinnell Hall will present a program on alternative lifestyles and gay and lesbian issues sponsored by Gays, Bisexuals, Lesbians and Friends at 7 p.m. Tuesday. At 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in Lentz Hall, a program about AIDS and pregnancy will be presented.

On Wednesday, the programs will be switched and held at the opposite location at the same time.
The Feb. 23 program will be arranged by resident assistants on campus.
Also at the meeting, RHA allotted funds for eight residence halls through the permanent improvement fund, Angelene Welton, finance coordinator, said.
Welton said the fund, which is in its first year, was set up to provide extra funding for residence halls. She said the fund provides the halls with money for things they could not usually afford, such as pool tables, barbecue pits and furniture.
I think it gives the halls a chance to get fun and new things, she said.
The halls receiving allotments are Allen, Bowyer, Felts, Kellogg, Mae Smith, Neely, Pierce and Wright. The allotments will be approved at next week’s RHA meeting, Welton said.
