An SIUC graduate has been named the new general manager of the University Mall in Carbondale.

Debra Tindall, who received a bachelor of science degree in home economic education from SIUC in 1976, will take over general manager duties at the University Mall, 1237 W. Main St., on March 4.

Tindall will replace Jerri Uffelman, marketing director, who had been the acting general manager for four months after Fred Domianus left the position.

Uffelman said Tindall, a former Murphysboro resident, will be sensitive to Southern Illinois’ needs.

She is familiar with the local market, she said. We are eager to have her take the position.

Mace Hirt, regional manager for Heitman Properties, which owns and leases the mall, said Tindall fit the profile the company was looking for in a general manager.

Our goal was a person with local ties as well as having experience in retail, he said. She was the perfect match.

Hirt said Tindall was looking forward to returning to Southern Illinois. He said he thinks Tindall will bring strong marketing and managing skills to the position as well as being an asset when it comes to bringing new stores to the mall.
