The SIU volleyball team finished the Holiday Inn invitational with a 2-1 record on Saturday night.

In its first game against Northern Colorado, SIU won in four sets (25-27, 25-15, 25-14,27-25). Sophomore Andrea Estrada tallied 17 kills on 39 attempts with three attack errors.

“I felt really comfortable against Northern Colorado,” Estrada said. “I got blocked a few times against Central Florida — I might have gotten thrown off my game.”

SIU fell in five sets (22-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-19, 11-15) to Central Florida in its final match of the tournament.

“[UCF] is a huge team,” sophomore setter Hannah Kaminsky said. “Most of the time we were just waiting to dig their attacks.”

The Salukis fought back from a two-set deficit to force a fifth set, but were unable to finish off the Knights.

“Any time you play two games in the same day it’s very taxing,” coach Justin Ingram said. “It’s very difficult to come back from 0-2 but we battled back and I’m very proud.”

The SIU volleyball team plays in the Saluki Invitational on Friday against Dayton.
