October is Gay History Month at SIUC and nationally. Saturday is National Coming Out Day, and I’m writing this letter to make everyone aware of this very important event.

Coming out is a process that gay, lesbian and bisexual people go through on a continual basis. Coming out signifies when people accept their sexuality within themselves and in turn open their lives to other people. This process is different for everyone.

Also, I am writing to encourage those who are gay, lesbian or bisexual to come out to someone they love if they haven’t done so. Additionally, if you know someone who needs support in claiming their truth, please remember and support them.
