Many SIUC faculty and staff, because of prior employment, will be eligible for Social Security pension benefits in addition to a University pension. However, the Social Security Administration commonly reduces benefits because of your university pension, using a complicated formula. The Social Security Administration will not calculate benefits for you until you apply for your pension.

The SIUC Office of Human Resources is reluctant to do it either, but I will. I had software downloaded from the Internet and it has been installed by Steve Ober in the Department of Mining Engineering computer lab. The program is not user friendly.

If you would like me to help you use it, I can be reached most mornings at 453-7324. You will need an income statement from the Social Security Administration and an estimate of your monthly pension from the state.
