participated in the Chancellor search process and who treated me so well during my visit to Carbondale and Springfield. In particular, I want to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of Steve Scheiner and the other members of the Search Committee; they were extremely thorough in their review of the candidates. I appreciate the support that they gave me. Thanks also to the faculty, staff, and students who attended the open forums for the lively and provocative discussions that transpired.

I really am grateful, as well, for the editorial endorsement by the Daily Egyptian. That meant a great deal to me.
