Ellis Deshone Rineheart, 27, of Carbondale was arrested early Friday morning after evidence led Carbondale Police to believe he was responsible for a robbery Thursday night.

Police responded to a 911 hang-up call at 11:20 p.m. Thursday. The attendant reported that a suspect had entered the business, indicated he had a weapon and stole currency from the cash register.

Physical and clothing description of the suspect led investigating officers to believe Rineheart, an escapee from the ILDOC Southern Illinois Community Correctional Center, 810 W. Freeman St., was responsible.

When Rineheart returned to the center at 2:30 a.m. Friday, he was taken into custody on a Department of Corrections warrant for escape.

He was transported to the Carbondale Police Department where he was interviewed and processed, and then identified as the robber by a witness.

Rineheart was charged with aggravated robbery, battery and criminal damage to property and was taken to Jackson County Jail where he awaits a preliminary hearing.

Rineheart is on a Department of Corrections hold and cannot bond out of jail because he was on parole at the time of the robbery.
