James L. Hurd, 19, of Carbondale was arrested at 1:06 p.m. Wednesday at East Grand Avenue and South State Street on an outstanding Jackson County Warrant for failing to appear in court on previous charge of driving with suspended registration. Hurd was a passenger in a car that was stopped for running a stop sign. Hurd posted a cash bond and was released.

Jennifer McGowan, 19, of Carbondale and Tahirah Akins, 17, of Carbondale were arrested at 1:16 a.m. Thursday at Mae Smith for battery. McGowan was also cited for damage to state-supported property when she hit and broke a window. Akins posted $100 cash and was released. McGowan was taken to Jackson County Jail where she is awaiting a court appearance.
