Top video game news of the week: Oct. 26

Sony held a press conference during Paris Game Week and revealed a great deal.

‘Street Fighter V’ release date announced.

Yoshinori Ono, the executive producer of “Street Fighter V”, announced the game releases on Feb. 16 on PlayStation 4 and PC in North America and Europe.

The return of a classic character Dhalsim to the game’s roster was also confirmed.

It is unfortunate this game is exclusive to one console, even though it is believed the game would not exist if Sony had not backed Capcom to make it. Ultimately, it is better to have the game and limit its exposure than to not have it at all.

‘No Man’s Sky’ release month revealed

During the conference, Hello Games finally announced their upcoming open-world, survival game, “No Man’s Sky,” will launch sometime in June 2016.

The game is vast and players can literally explore entire galaxies. Players can also build their own starships and weapons, as well as hunt animals and resources.

There is not an exact date but having a rough idea is good news. Fans wanted to know when they can play it and they finally have an idea. This game is hotly anticipated and could be revolutionary.

Quantic Dream announces new game

Quantic Dream’s next game is called “Detroit: Become Human,” which stars the android Kara.

This is based off a tech demo in 2012, which had Kara being created in a robotics factory, discovering her sentience and escaping. The game takes places afterwards as she explores a futuristic Detroit.

I have never played a Quantic Dream game, but the studio does have a solid pedigree, especially with games such as “Heavy Rain” and “Indigo Prophecy.”

I remember seeing the tech demo in 2012 and being impressed. Taking this unique concept and turning it into a game seems right up Quantic Dream’s alley. And, provided the gameplay is fun, this might be a fantastic game with a deep and thought provoking plot.

Release date for Backward compatibility announced

Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, revealed on Twitter that backwards compatibility will be available for fans on Nov. 12. This feature is also accompanied by the New Xbox Experience, which is the Xbox One’s new interface and provides several new features.

A list of confirmed games available for backwards compatibility on Nov. 12 is provided here. More games will be added in the future.

Backwards compatibility is a great convenience and fans are anticipating this release. However, I do think consumers value this feature more than it deserves.

In the previous generation of consoles an extremely low number of players used the backwards compatibility feature provided on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Perhaps this time around, it will be different.
