Police have no suspects

A suspect armed with a knife entered the Veach Short Stop on 1123 E. Walnut St. at 10 p.m. Sunday, took a cash drawer and fled on foot, police said.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, about 6-foot-1 with a slender build. He was wearing a dark colored sweat suit with a bandana over his face.

Jurhee Veach, Short Stop supervisor, said there were no injuries. The two women working at the time were at the end of their shift.

“It was scary for them, but no one even came close to getting hurt,” Veach said. “He didn’t come close to either one of the women with the knife… he just showed it.”

The suspect demanded money, but Veach said he did not take very much. She said the suspect appeared to be wearing some sort of Halloween wig.

Police said the suspect has not been located, and they are continuing their investigation.
