SIU student break stereotypes

By Gus Bode

Dear Editor:All too often our students are stereotyped as raucous, disrespectful, surly ingrates who do nothing but party and cause trouble. On the contrary, those of us SIUC retirees who volunteer as greeters and checkers at the University Bookstore during the first week of the semester have been extremely impressed with how professional the many students we meet are:Invariably they are courteous, appreciative and friendly – even after having spent hundreds of dollars for texts and supplies! These students are surely representative of the vast majority and deserve our commendations and support.
