Sept. 11th flag

By Gus Bode

Dear Editor:

I would first like to thank those who did not forget and took time to remember all of those that were lost in the Sept. 11 attacks. I would like to comment though on the American flag that flew from the front of the SIUC Arena. It was proper to have the flag at half-mast on Sept. 11 due to a day of mourning, but it was highly disrespectful and wrong that while this was done to the nation’s flag but not done to the state’s flag. It says in the United States flag code that no flag should be hung above our nation’s flag. To do so is a sign of disrespect to all that the flag means. It flew like this the whole day. While I understand that this was probably a mistake, I highly recommend that more thought be put into this in the future, and that our nation’s flag gets the respect it deserves.
