Salukis fall short to Sycamores

By Brandon Willingham

It was Indiana State’s shooting from beyond the arc that the Salukis couldn’t overcome.

SIU(8-20,4-13 Missouri Valley Conference) led into the first half, but the Sycamores caught on fire from field-goal range and defeated the Salukis 69-46 Thursday at the SIU Arena.

The Sycamores were led by Shannon Thomas’ 12 points. They shot 15 for 31 from field goal range and knocked down six of 11 3-pointers in the first half, while the Salukis made eight of 22 shots from field goal range, along with 15 turnovers.

SIU went zero for 13 from behind the arc in the first half, with leading three-point shooter Teri Oliver on the bench the last 12 minutes of the second half.

The presence of the dynamic duo was nowhere to be found. Oliver finished the game with zero points, while freshman guard Cartaesha Macklin scored only nine points and had nine turnovers.

Sophomore guard Antishia Wright led the Salukis with 12 points.

The Salukis came out in the second half and shot eight of 27 from field goals, but they converted three field goals from behind the arc.

The Salukis will host Illinois State in their last home game of the season at 2:05 p.m. Saturday at the SIU Arena.
