An SIU student was in a fatal car accident early Monday morning in Murphysboro.

Matthew T. Coleman, a senior studying aviation technologies, was thrown from his vehicle on Walnut Street, according to the Jackson County Coroner’s Office.

The vehicle hit an embankment and overturned after it was heading eastbound and crossed the westbound lane, according to a press release from the Murphysboro Police Department.

Police are investigating the accident. The Rev. Bob Gray, university chaplain, did not have any information on the incident as of press time Monday.
